Sports and team games are an important and integral element of our school’s curriculum. In addition to competing against other preparatory schools, we take part in many state school leagues and competitions. We actively encourage the children to participate in team and individual events and we have achieved numerous successes at town, county and national levels.
We believe sport for all develops the children’s skills, self-esteem and social interaction. It also helps them learn to cope with disappointments.
All the children at Park School receive a broad and balanced programme of physical education and sport. From Reception to Year 6 all children have one PE lesson per week, during which they focus on gymnastics, dance, core strength, balance, table tennis and one or two other sports. Children in Years 1 to 6 enjoy an additional two games sessions per week.
During the winter, boys and girls play football, tag rugby and hockey, whilst the girls also play netball. In summer, boys and girls play cricket, rounders and athletics.
On our main site, we have a well-equipped sports hall, an outdoor all weather pitch, a netball court and a basketball court. In addition, the school’s recently acquired sports ground (also known as Dean Park Cricket Ground) is used by one or more of our year groups every day. High class facilities are also used at the Littledown Centre, the Sir David English Centre and Kings Park Athletics stadium which provide large astro pitches, netball courts and specialist athletics facilities. All of these venues are a five minute ride in the school minibus or a coach.
